If you work in Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible AI client, you can add Baro as a tool and ask it to convert pressure units directly in your conversation — no tab-switching, no copy-pasting numbers back and forth.
This takes about a minute to set up.
What Baro's MCP server does
Once connected, your AI assistant can convert between any of Baro's 24+ supported units — Pa, bar, psi, atm, Torr, mmHg, inH2O, and more — as a native tool call. You ask in plain language; Baro returns the conversion. The AI can then use that result directly in whatever it's helping you with.
Setup
Claude Desktop (macOS · Windows)
Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config. Merge this into your claude_desktop_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"baro": {
"url": "https://baro.codecide.net/mcp"
}
}
}
Config file location:
- macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json - Windows:
%APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
Save and restart Claude Desktop.
Cursor (macOS · Windows · Linux)
Open Cursor → Settings → MCP, or add to .cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"baro": {
"url": "https://baro.codecide.net/mcp"
}
}
}
Save and reload the window. Baro will appear in the MCP panel.
VS Code (GitHub Copilot · macOS · Windows · Linux)
Add to your .vscode/mcp.json or VS Code settings (JSON):
{
"mcp": {
"servers": {
"baro": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://baro.codecide.net/mcp"
}
}
}
}
Open the Copilot chat panel — Baro tools will be available in Agent mode.
Other clients (Windsurf, Zed, any MCP-compatible host)
Any client that supports HTTP transport works. Use the server URL https://baro.codecide.net/mcp and follow your client's documentation for the exact config format.
Example prompts
Once connected, these work as-is:
"Convert 2.3 bar to psi"
"I'm reading 120 mmHg systolic — what's that in kPa?"
"The duct static pressure spec says 0.5 inH2O. What is that in Pascals?"
"Convert 3000 psi to bar, MPa, and kPa"
The AI handles the tool call silently and returns the answer in context — no interruption to your workflow.
Practical scenarios
HVAC commissioning notes. You're reviewing a control system spec that mixes inH2O (duct static), psi (refrigerant), and Pa (controls). Ask Claude to normalize all readings to a single unit before you draft the summary.
Medical device documentation. You're writing a procedure that references blood pressure in mmHg and need kPa equivalents throughout. Ask once; the tool handles the arithmetic.
Diving planning in Cursor. You're writing a dive log script. Your tank reads 200 bar; your safety algorithm expects psi. Wire Baro into the agent loop and let it convert as needed.
Industrial Python scripts. You're asking Copilot to help write a data pipeline. Incoming sensor readings are in kgf/cm²; your database schema expects Pa. Baro gives the agent a conversion tool it can call during code generation.
No API key required
Baro's MCP server is free and open. No authentication, no rate limits for reasonable use. The server endpoint is:
